  In celebration of Earth Day, the Dayton Society of Artists proudly presents "What a Wonderful World." From vast landscapes and intricate ecosystems to the small yet profound details of everyday life, What a Wonderful Word invites viewers to reflect on the countless wonders that surround us. Through painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media, participating artists interpret themes of nature, sustainability, biodiversity, and the fragile balance of our environment.

• Ukrainian Egg Decoration (Pysanky) with Ginny Baughman

  Saturday Session -

  Join the DSA in a workshop lead by Ginny Baughman on the art of pysanky. 

  Students will enjoy learning how to create the beautiful Pysanky or Ukrainian egg. In this one-day workshop, students will learn the history of this art form. Then they will create one egg to take home with them at the end of the class. Supplies to make one egg will be included in the price of the class. 
  

  This is an adult class ages 16 and up can attend on their own. Students under the age of 16 can attend if accompanied by an adult, but they must pay separately. No children under the age of 10 please.

  Please note this class requires using the open flame of a candle. Safety precautions will be taken to insure the safety of the students.

  About your instructor: 
  

  Ginny Baughman is a visual artist who has lived and worked in Ohio her entire life. She was born and raised in Dayton and obtained a BFA from the University of Dayton and an MA in Art Education from Ohio State University. After college Ginny moved to central Ohio and gained notoriety as an artist there with her traditional architectural portraits and landscapes of the area. Then she moved into contemporary multidimensional artwork which has been featured in many shows throughout Ohio and the US. She continues to work in both traditional and contemporary styles with a variety of media. Ginny has also worked as a teaching artist for over 25 years now teaching a variety of classes including Ukrainian Egg Decorating, which is a part of her heritage. About 5 years ago Ginny moved back home to the Dayton area. In 2021 Ginny received the Montgomery County Artist Grant to complete a Dayton Coloring Book. She now works as a scenic charge artist at the Town Hall Theater in Centerville, Ohio.

  Join us for an artist reception on Friday, April 25th, from 5:30-8 p.m. to celebrate Alisa Workman and her large, colorful floral paintings as the second featured artist in this inspiring series.

  Thanks to Laurie Westheimer and The Westheimer Group, this partnership brings unique opportunities for our artists to display their work in a beautifully lit, professional space at 3000 Far Hills Ave (Kettering/Oakwood line).   Pencil and Prompts: Drawing Basics

  Sharpen up your sketching skills with a local artist providing you insights and inspirations into the world of drawing. Basic drawing materials provided. Guests are welcome to bring their own graphite drawing materials if desired. No drawing experience necessary. Each session provides insights on a different theme or drawing technique. Experimentation is strongly encouraged.

  Matthew Burgy is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in sculpture and painting, with years of experience organizing and leading art workshops. An active member of the local artist community, Matthew’s work explores movement, form, and expression through kinetic sculptures, jewelry, and paintings. Matthew continuously collaborates with organizations such as Culture Works to engage the community through his artistic process. He is a proud member of the Front Street artist community, where he creates, exhibits, and sells his work from his studio (#3345) on the third floor of Building 100’s BC entrance.

  Sketcher Social Session: Advanced Drawing

  Join in the fun with fellow sketching enthusiasts for an in-depth experience with drawing. Each session provides basic graphite materials and bringing your own advanced dry mediums (charcoal, chalk, colored pencil, etc.) is encouraged. Each session also includes a time for friendly drawing critique and discussion moderated by a local artist of any work made during the session or of a recent drawing that you would like feedback on. Experimentation and imaginative exploration of topics discussed is strongly encouraged! Each month has a different theme and guests are encouraged to collaborate on future themes as desired.
