The Dayton Society of Artists is pleased to support this exhibition by sharing this opportunity with our community. This is not a Dayton Society of Artists exhibition.

About the Exhibition

The Greater Dayton LGBT Center invites LGBTQ+ artists and allies to participate in The Art of Q 2026, a community exhibition and fundraiser celebrating the creativity and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.

Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit artwork that reflects identity, resilience, community, personal experience, or any subject that represents their current creative practice.

This exhibition serves as a fundraiser benefiting the Greater Dayton LGBT Center and its ongoing mission to serve and support the LGBTQ+ community.

All submitted artwork will be accepted and exhibited, provided it meets the exhibition requirements outlined below.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to LGBTQ+ artists and allies.
Artists may submit up to six (6) works of art.
All media are welcome.

SALES

Artists will receive 80% of the sale price of each artwork sold. The remaining 20% will be donated to the Greater Dayton LGBT Center in support of its programs and services.

REQUIREMENTS

Artists may submit up to six (6) artworks.
Artwork must be professionally presented and ready for exhibition.
Please label the back of each artwork with:
- Artist Name
- Artwork Title
- Medium
- Dimensions
- Price (or "Not for Sale")
Artists must complete and sign the exhibition entry form and honesty statement at the time of artwork drop-off.
By signing the honesty statement, artists certify that the submitted artwork is their original creation and does not infringe upon the copyrighted work of others.
The Greater Dayton LGBT Center reserves the right to decline artwork that differs significantly from the information provided, is not ready for exhibition, or does not meet the exhibition requirements.

AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE

By participating in this exhibition, artists acknowledge that they have read and agree to the exhibition guidelines. Submission of artwork confirms acceptance of the exhibition requirements and sales commission outlined above.

Call for Art: Small but Mighty 2026

SMALL BUT MIGHTY 2026: The Dayton Society of Artists (DSA) is pleased to present Small but Mighty 2026, our annual small works exhibition celebrating the power and impact of artwork on an intimate scale.

Open to DSA members in good standing, the exhibition welcomes all mediums, techniques, and styles. Artists may submit up to three works, with each work measuring no larger than 12" x 12" for 2D work, including framing, or 12" x 12" x 12" for 3D work.

The exhibition runs November 13, 2026–January 1, 2027, making it a great opportunity for visitors to purchase original artwork during the holiday season. All artwork submitted must be available for sale. Purchased artwork may be taken home at the time of sale, and participating artists may be contacted to provide an additional piece if their work sells.

The Dayton Society of Artists will do its best to accept all eligible works submitted. Acceptance will depend on available gallery space and whether artwork meets the size, presentation, and eligibility requirements outlined in this call.

ENTRY FEE

$5 submission fee

Artists must be current Dayton Society of Artists members in good standing through the duration of the exhibition.

REQUIREMENTS

Eligibility: Submissions are open to Dayton Society of Artists members in good standing. Membership must remain active through the duration of the exhibition. Not a member yet? Become a member at daytondsa.org/becomeamember.
Entries: Member artists may submit up to 3 pieces.
For Sale: All submitted artwork must be available for sale. NFS (Not For Sale) work will not be accepted.
Dimensions: All 2D artwork must be no larger than 12" x 12", including all framing and matting. All 3D artwork must be no larger than 12" x 12" x 12".
Presentation: Artwork must be professionally presented. 2D work must be ready to hang and wired on the back. D-rings for wiring are highly recommended. Sawtooth hangers, magnets, Command Strips, or other unapproved hanging methods will not be accepted. Works on paper must be framed.
3D Work: Three-dimensional artwork must be pedestal-based and sturdy enough to sit safely on a pedestal without additional display hardware. If special hardware, cases, or other display materials are required, they must be provided by the artist and approved by DSA.
Labeling: Artwork must be labeled on the back with the artist's name, title, medium, contact phone number or email, and sale price.
Originality: Artwork must not have been previously exhibited at the Dayton Society of Artists.
Duration: Unsold artwork may not be removed before the close of the exhibition.
The Dayton Society of Artists reserves the right to reject work that does not meet the size, eligibility, safety, sales, or presentation requirements.

SALES

Small but Mighty is designed to encourage the purchase of original artwork during the holiday season. All artwork in the exhibition will be available for sale.

Artwork purchased during the exhibition may be taken home by the purchaser at the time of sale.

If a piece sells, the participating artist may be contacted and asked to provide another piece to help keep the exhibition full throughout its run. Replacement artwork must meet all Small but Mighty requirements and be available for sale.

The Dayton Society of Artists will retain a 30% commission on all artwork sold. Artists should price their work accordingly.

ART DELIVERY

All artwork must arrive ready to install. Works that are not gallery-ready, do not meet the size requirements, or do not demonstrate appropriate presentation may be omitted from the exhibition.

Artists are responsible for insuring artwork during transportation to and from the Dayton Society of Artists.

LIABILITY

Artists are responsible for insuring their work during delivery, installation, the exhibition period, and pickup. The Dayton Society of Artists is not liable for loss or damage due to circumstances beyond its control. Please note that the gallery does not have constant climate control.

Reasonable safety and security precautions will be taken while artwork is on the premises.

GALLERY DISCRETION

The Dayton Society of Artists reserves the right to reject any submitted artwork at its discretion. This may include, but is not limited to, work that fails to meet eligibility, size, sales, or presentation requirements; is deemed unsafe or unstable; is not accurately represented in the submission; or is otherwise considered unsuitable for the exhibition.

AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE

Submitting artwork indicates that you agree to the conditions of entry and exhibition outlined in these guidelines and agree to make accepted work available for the duration of the exhibition unless the work is sold.

The Dayton Society of Artists may use submitted images and images of exhibited artwork in print and/or digital marketing materials.

Call for Art: Dayton Society of Artists Annual Members’ Show 2026

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A ONE-NIGHT POP-UP EXHIBITION HOSTED AT 118 N. JEFFERSON STREET

The Dayton Society of Artists is pleased to announce its Annual Members’ Show, a special one-night pop-up exhibition celebrating the creativity, range, and talent of our artist membership.

The exhibition will take place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM at 118 N. Jefferson Street in conjunction with the Dayton Society of Artists Annual Members’ Meeting and Halloween Party.

This year, we’re adding a light seasonal twist. Artists are welcome to submit work that is mysterious, strange, dark, playful, supernatural, autumnal—or not Halloween-related at all.

The Halloween theme is completely optional.

The Annual Members’ Show is first and foremost a celebration of Dayton Society of Artists members and their work. Artists working in all media and styles are encouraged to participate.

Artists may submit up to three artworks for consideration.

A LITTLE HALLOWEEN SPIRIT

Artists are welcome—but absolutely not required—to submit work that leans into the strange, mysterious, eerie, fantastical, macabre, magical, or unexpected.

The Halloween element is intended to add a little fun to this year’s Members’ Show and Annual Members’ Meeting.

Artwork does not need to be Halloween-themed.

SALES & COMMISSION

Artwork may be offered for sale during the exhibition.

The Dayton Society of Artists will retain its standard commission on artwork sold through the exhibition.

EXHIBITION PARTICIPATION

The Dayton Society of Artists will make every effort to include all submitted artwork in this one-night Members’ Show.

Because this is a pop-up exhibition and space is limited, the DSA Exhibition Committee reserves the right to make final decisions based on available space, installation requirements, and the safety of the artwork and venue.

The Halloween theme is completely optional and will not be a factor in determining which artwork is included.

The Dayton Society of Artists is pleased to present Creatures in Color, a collaborative exhibition by Ezra Stinson and Ariel White in the Project Space.

Creatures in Color

Ezra and Ariel met earlier this year at a Dayton Society of Artists Members Show and enjoyed discovering each other’s work. Their meeting sparked conversations about what a collaboration between their distinct artistic practices might look like—and they decided to make it happen.

Creatures in Color brings together collaborative works alongside individual pieces by both artists, showing how collaboration can encourage artists to stretch beyond their usual approaches, experiment with new ideas, and discover new ways of creating.

Whimsical, imaginative, and full of color, the exhibition celebrates what can happen when two artists bring their individual perspectives together to create something entirely new.

Creatures in Color opens concurrently with H.E.A.R. ME in the Dayton Society of Artists Main Gallery. H.E.A.R. MEis presented in collaboration with ADAMHS, Brigid’s Path, UMADAOP of Dayton, Stigma Is Out Of Style, Premier Health, and We Care Arts. Visitors are invited to experience both exhibitions during the opening reception and throughout their run at the Dayton Society of Artists.

Join us for a focused and immersive experience in academic figure drawing. This instructed nude figure drawing session offers artists the opportunity to deepen their understanding of anatomy, proportion, gesture, and light through guided study from a live nude model.

Led by Greg Dearth, each session includes structured instruction, demonstrations, and individualized feedback. Artists will work through a range of timed poses designed to strengthen observational skills and refine technique in a serious, supportive studio environment.

Participants are asked to bring their own drawing materials. Suggested supplies are listed below, but artists are welcome to work in the dry medium of their choice. Please bring any drawing board, easel, or preferred paper needed for your practice.

Time will also be dedicated to thoughtful critique and discussion, allowing space for experimentation, technical growth, and meaningful artistic exchange.

Come ready to observe closely, draw confidently, and engage deeply in the enduring tradition of figure study.

About your Instructor:
Greg Dearth is a native of Dayton, Ohio and an Art graduate of Ohio University. As a nationally known illustrator his work has appeared in books, in museums, on products and in ads for many Fortune 500 companies. Over the years portrait painting and figure drawing has become his special focus. He has taught at Rosewood Art Center in Kettering and the Dayton Art Institute as well as various independent workshops. He has also Demonstrated and been guest speaker at the Cincinnati Art Club, Dayton Society of Artists, CCAD in Columbus and The Portfolio Center in Atlanta.

“Figure drawing" is challenging but can also be very artistically fulfilling. There may not be any rules in Art, but there are certain methods that can be taught to produce desired results. I hope everyone attending this workshop will both have some fun and take home some new skills to use in their future work!”

Join the Dayton Society of Artists for a master copy workshop led by Dayton Society of Artists Historian Kathleen Caffrey. This session will explore the techniques, composition, and artistic decisions behind Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s The Dancing Troupe of Mademoiselle Eglantine through a guided drawing and painting exercise, accompanied by historical insights into the artist and the context surrounding the work.

Master copying has long been an important tool for artists seeking to strengthen their observational skills and deepen their understanding of artistic technique. Participants will work from a reproduction of the selected artwork while analyzing its structure, value relationships, color, and compositional design. Kathleen Caffrey will guide participants through the exercise while providing historical context and discussion of Toulouse-Lautrec’s life, influences, and place within art history.

Join the Dayton Society of Artists Book Club for a thoughtful conversation about Finding Dora Maar: An Artist, an Address Book, a Life by Brigitte Benkemoun.

Blending biography, art history, and detective story, Finding Dora Maar begins when a vintage address book once belonging to Dora Maar unexpectedly comes into Benkemoun’s possession. From there, the author sets out to reconstruct the life and remarkable circle of one of the twentieth century’s most compelling artists.

Often remembered as Pablo Picasso’s muse and the subject of The Weeping Woman, Dora Maar was also an accomplished photographer, painter, and important figure within the Surrealist movement. Through extensive research, Benkemoun explores Maar’s relationships with artists, writers, and intellectuals while bringing renewed attention to her own artistic achievements and legacy.

The discussion will be led by Kathleen Caffrey, Dayton Society of Artists Board Member and Historian, who will guide the group through a conversation about Dora Maar’s work, the Surrealist movement, and the unusual detective story behind Benkemoun’s book.

No need to read the book in advance. Whether you have finished the book, just started it, or simply want to join an engaging conversation about art and art history, everyone is welcome.

Join us for an artist talk with photographer Dan Cleary, presented as part of the FotoFocus 2026 Biennial and its theme, The Long View.

In Standing in Two Times: The Long View Through “Then and Now” Photography, Cleary will explore his Wright Brothers and Indianapolis 500 “Then and Now” series. In each project, he pairs historic photographs with contemporary images he created at the same locations, connecting past and present while preserving the memory of place and revealing the enduring influence of innovation, speed, and human ambition.

During the presentation, Cleary will discuss the research, travel, and creative process behind these series and share how he identifies historic locations and rephotographs them from a contemporary perspective. Through these layered images, he invites viewers to consider how photography can help us see familiar places differently and better understand how the past continues to shape the present.

Designed for artists at any stage of their career, The Working Artist: Essential Practices will focus on three of the most important tools artists need when applying for exhibitions, grants, residencies, and other opportunities: a strong artist statement, artist CV, and quality images of your artwork.

Bridgette will share practical guidance for presenting yourself and your work clearly and professionally, helping participants strengthen the materials they use to pursue opportunities and build their artistic practice.

Saturday Session

Join the DSA in a workshop lead by Ginny Baughman on the art of pysanky.

Students will enjoy learning how to create the beautiful Pysanky or Ukrainian egg. In this one-day workshop, students will learn the history of this art form. Then they will create one egg to take home with them at the end of the class. Supplies to make one egg will be included in the price of the class.

This is an adult class ages 16 and up can attend on their own. Students under the age of 16 can attend if accompanied by an adult, but they must pay separately. No children under the age of 10 please.

Please note this class requires using the open flame of a candle. Safety precautions will be taken to insure the safety of the students.
