No One Ever Told Me
The DSA Project Space, known for its flexibility in highlighting members' artwork and innovative ideas throughout the year, will be featuring a collection of work by member Stephanie de la Rosa.
No One Ever Told Me
No one ever told me how difficult it is to become a mother. No one ever told me my body may not be able to conceive a baby. No one ever told me that the grief after a traumatic birth lingers. No one ever told me the sleepless nights never end. No one ever told me I would lose a piece of myself while picking up pieces I never knew existed. No one ever told me that every hour of every day would feel like decades. No one ever told me the name I so desperately wanted to be called would be the same name that drives me insane when I hear it over and over. No one ever told me becoming a mother would be my biggest fear, my greatest challenge, and the most important role I take on in my life. No one ever told me I could love in the ways I do now. No one ever told me that being a mother would show me how to see the world through someone else’s eyes and it is beautiful.
This newest body of work embraces all these things no one ever told me and plays witness to all of the parts of motherhood that I am faced with all of the beautiful parts, all of the tough parts, and all of the parts that have made my heart break over and over again.
