About the Artist
Terry Welker, FAIA, is an architect, artist, and sculptor based in Kettering, Ohio. After beginning his studies in fine art, Welker earned both Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Cincinnati, where he later taught design and drawing as a Wolfson Fellow. An award-winning architect, he founded his own architectural practice in 1994 and created the Archetype Gallery to support artists throughout the Miami Valley. His work has been exhibited throughout the region and is included in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Dayton Art Institute, Miami Valley Hospital, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and Cuyahoga Community College. Today, his background in architecture, teaching, and design continues to inform his multidisciplinary artistic practice.
About the Work
Tangled Up In Blue: Messages & Images to Our Future Selves presents recent blue ink sketchbooks, drawings, and ongoing explorations of the color blue by Terry Welker. Inspired by reflection, memory, and possibility, the exhibition invites visitors to participate by leaving blue notes on the gallery walls—messages to their future selves—through the exhibition's Teleportation Station.
Blending personal artistic practice with audience participation, the exhibition transforms the Project Space into a place for contemplation, conversation, and collective imagination. As visitors add their own thoughts and reflections, the installation evolves throughout the exhibition, creating a shared visual archive of hopes, memories, and aspirations expressed through the unifying language of blue.
