As an artist and art educator, my experiences include gallery director, museum educator, and school art teacher. I’ve also exhibited my own work in gallery settings and street shows. Experimenting with a variety of media over the years, I now focus on oil painting and batik (wax resist).
The process of batik, or using wax resist to create an image, has long fascinated me. My early batiks were of the true form, utilizing natural fabrics, dyes, beeswax and techniques that honored age-old traditions. However, I now use an altered approach with rice paper, watercolors, and wax as a resist. With the natural world as my inspiration, I hope to communicate the magical, surreal beauty of the world around us.
The purpose of the workshop series, Introducing..., is to acquaint DSA members and the community with different mediums and methods in the visual arts. Attendees will get to know the instructing artist, their background, and tips and tricks of their trade. Fees received through this series will compensate the artist for their time and will support future DSA programming. By attending you’ll be supporting local artists as well as gaining knowledge in a unique medium! With an additional materials fee, some of the workshops will feature a hands-on project so you can further explore the techniques you've learned!"
