The world and its inhabitants were a frequent source of fear throughout my childhood as an undiagnosed neurodivergent girl, and later as a young woman navigating the way I was newly perceived. I imagine this is a commonality of the female experience, no matter one's neurotype, nationality, circumstances, etc. 'Crying Wolf' is an inversion of the idiom 'wolf in sheep's clothing'; while it addresses the act of social masking in a literal sense, it is also a reaction to the societal expectation to be that which we are not.
