BIO
Paul Rienzo is an award-winning artist who has shown around the US, including solo exhibitions in New York City’s Soho district and several universities. He has appeared in more than a dozen publications, including an article in American Artist’s Watercolor Magazine profiling his acrylic works. His paintings are on permanent exhibit at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Plaza in La Paz, Bolivia.

A student of Gestalt psychology, anthropology, and such illustrators as Norman Rockwell and Joseph Leyendecker, Rienzo uses rich color, powerful composition, and remarkable figurative realism to draw the viewer into the psychic narrative of his paintings.  His paintings are subtle, social statements regarding the loss of innocence in American life.

A self-taught artist (he holds a degree in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts), Rienzo believes that the success of any painting primarily lies in its ability to stimulate, to provoke an interpretation or reaction.  While maintaining photorealistic qualities, he takes small liberties with design, simplification, perspective and symbolism.  Gestalt principles such as continuation, repetition, closure and pragränz create visual tensions that evoke meaning.  Visual cues challenge the viewer to make sense of the work, which can be specific to personal experience.

Rienzo is an experienced juror, past director of the Ohio Realist Group, three-time author on creativity and market research, living and working in Cincinnati, Ohio.
